Quick Architect - Full Details

Quick Architect is a low cost 2D CAD system with a high degree of drawing automation. It has in-built intelligence with information attached to walls, doors, windows, roofs etc. that allows elevations and schedules to be created automatically which remain associated to the plans. This means that modifications to the plans can be automatically reflected in the elevations and schedules. It is this intelligence that makes Quick Architect stand out from the other architectural CAD products in its price range and those costing significantly more. Most Quick Architect commands are controlled by uncluttered and intuitive dialog boxes, with clear images that reflect the selections and inputs you make. For example, the insertion of a Window couldn't be easier as the dialog box clearly displays the types and styles available, and allows you to choose from standard sizes or to enter your own. Wall styles can be saved for fast re-selection in other drawings, saving you time and ensuring repeatability and accuracy across all of your projects.

It is so easy to draw walls with Quick Architect. Dynamic dimensions are displayed from the previous wall point so that it is simple to control the length and angle of each new wall. Like many other settings you have complete control over the distance and angle snapping which can be changed whilst you are drawing.

Drawing walls is easy!

Window Styles

Doors and Windows are equally straightforward to create with Quick Architect. The Door dialog box allows you to select the elevation, sizes, style, type, jamb size/position and threshold options, whilst the Window dialog box allows you control of elevation, sizes, number of panes, jamb size/position and sill options. The flexibility of Quick Architect's Doors and Windows means that almost any design can be produced.

What is more, Quick Architect boosts your productivity with automatic Wall breaks. An intuitive dialog box controls the break style for each Wall type. Then, when inserting a Door or Window, Quick Architect inserts the structural opening into he Wall and applies the appropriate break style.

Scheduling facilities allow the user to input important information about doors and windows to produce a schedule of doors and windows. This routine also automatically numbers the doors and windows on the plan and can be extracted for use in a spread sheet for costing. Schedules are associative to the plan so if changes are made to the plan then the schedules are automatically updated, reducing the chance of error.

You have complete control of stairs with Quick Architect. In plan you can define the style (straight, half or quarter turn, spiral), control the sizes and have a choice of winders, cut-lines and numbering entirely at your discretion. You also have access to a wide range of Elevations and Sections, with the option to conform to Building Regulations.

Quick Architect has hundreds of symbols including Plumbing, Heating, Furniture, Electrical and Kitchen fittings, to help you add further detail to your designs. The majority are not just blocks that have to be stretched and scaled to the correct size, but are intelligent parametric symbols. This means that you can define the key dimensions and the symbol is automatically and instantly drawn to the size you require. As many of the symbols in Quick Architect are available in elevation as well as plan, they can be used to quickly add detail to your internal or external elevations.

Dimensioning is another task usually associated with time consuming effort. This is not the case with Quick Architect. Special dimensioning routines find all the elements inserted into a given wall; i.e. a door or a window, and automatically places a string dimension and an overall dimension along the selected wall. This means that a building design can be fully dimensioned in literally a few minutes.

It is possible to edit any number of drawings simultaneously with Quick Architect and to have open multiple views of the same one. You can also call complete drawings into another as a symbol while retaining an intelligent link to the master copy of the symbol.

Quick Architect additional features

• Hipped, Gable, Mono Pitch, False Hip, Flat, Apex and Dormer roofs

• Structural Grid layout with automatic numbering and spacing.

• Automated ceiling grid layouts

• Ability to read and write AutoCAD DWG, DXF formats

• The information stored within plans drawn using Quick Architect allow elevational views to be created automatically . These elevational views are associative so when changes occur within the plan they update automatically. The elevations display the door and window styles as well as the the roof outline .

• Library of standard architectural symbols

• Hatch patterns for brick, roof, floor, etc. and user drawn patterns

Structural Steel

Quick Architect also incorporates a complete Structural steelwork design system. A comprehensive library of design tools for steelwork construction and fabrication including:- Columns, Foundations, Bolts, Gussets, Holes, Welds and Assemblies. Virtually all of these symbols are parametric, giving high flexibility in the variation of symbol sizes available.

Building Sections

And it's never been easier to generate Building Sections. Quick Architect has an extensive library of 2D construction details, so you can finish detailing your designs with minimal effort. The library contains parametric symbols for the Foundations, DPC, Floor Structure, Walls, Sills, Headers, Doors, Windows, Roof Trusses and Fascias. You can use these to build a single or multi-storey building section in stages or you may select from a choice of standard pre-assembled modules.

Timber framing/Flooring

Quick Architect gives you parametric Timber stud panels in plan and elevation. You can specify the key sizes and select from the following types: - Door opening, Window opening, Door & Window opening and No-opening. The flooring routine Automatically lays out floor joists.

Foundations/Perimeter & Space Diagram Tools

The Perimeter tool is used for quickly designing your building footprint and placing walls on it. Foundations can then be generated automatically from the building perimeter. Space Diagram tool lays out a building design room by room giving dimensions.

3D Walkthrough

Now you can create stunning 3D walkthrough models of your designs, straight from 2D plan drawings.

Example Screen Shot

Quick Architect creates a 3D file in VRML (Virtual Reality Modelling Language) format, which can be viewed within any Internet browser that supports it, allowing you to fly around and walk through the building with doors opening automatically.

You can specify materials, textures or colours for each design element within your 2D drawing. This means that you exercise complete control over the look and feel of the 3D walkthrough generated. Even components of standard elements can be assigned an individual material, texture or colour. For example, with doors, the door, frame, lintel and threshold can all be given different materials, textures or colours.

Assign Textures

It is even possible to specify the transparency of glass and to define a staircase as being either concrete, wooden or open. Quick Architect includes a library of architectural textures which can be scaled and rotated when rendering individual building elements. The library of textures can be easily enhanced by adding your own specific requirements as simple image files, thus making the range of finishes you can achieve limitless.

Texture Library

Floors and ceilings are created within an intuitive dialog box, and large multi- storey buildings are easily handled by identifying the level number for each floor in a simple dialog box.

Floors/Ceilings & Levels

Complete your designs by utilising Quick Architect's range of 3D furniture and fittings, which include symbols for home and office furniture, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, electrical fittings and landscape. All you do is insert the required 2D symbol into your plan, and Quick Architect takes care of the rest. Try out some example VRML files.

3D Furniture & Fittings

Once you have created the walkthrough file, it can be forwarded across the Internet, or posted onto a Website. This allows anyone involved in a building project, with or without CAD software on their PC and anywhere in the World, to immediately and simultaneously view your design. The walkthrough file is also compatible with a number of rendering programs such as Artlantis, allowing you to present a photo-realistic image of a project to clients, interior designers and planners.
